Despite packing a sizeable lithium-ion battery and a quartet of electric motors good for a claimed 1972 horsepower, the Evija weighs in just over 3,700 pounds, according to Lotus. That makes it a relative featherweight in the realm of performance EVs, where reducing mass remains a universal challenge. Still, the Evija's favorable power-to-weight ratio and low center of gravity deliver truly wicked acceleration and near telepathic response to driver inputs. With only 130 Evijas slated for production, this rolling embodiment of Lotus philosophy isn't meant for the masses. |

In 1 Corinthians 13:11, Paul says, “When I became a man, I put away childish things”—but if we all followed his lead, Lego would have gone bankrupt years ago. The Macan 4S Electric, the one-from-the-top model of Porsche’s new battery-powered SUV, reminds us a lot of the hot hatchbacks we had (or wanted) in our youth, and might still be driving had we not been mercilessly crushed beneath the demands of adulthood. So is the Macan 4S Electric the fountain of youth, or is it merely the vehicular equivalent of a toupee or a trophy wife, an attempt to render vivid that which cannot be revived? Time to test the 4S and find out.

| "Man, you're out here eating up Hellcats!" So says the guy in the Dodge Charger Scat Pack who had the misfortune of lining up twice against the 2024 Mercedes-AMG S63 E-Performance plug-in hybrid at Rockingham Dragway. The big Benz doesn't look like it would be all that quick, especially wearing a gold paint job that prompted me to dub the car "Champagne Supernova" on the sign-in tech sheet. (Mercedes calls the hue Kalahari gold metallic, a $1750 option.) It's the kind of color you expect to see in the valet line at Joe's Stone Crab, not in the staging lanes at the Rockingham March Madness takeover, where the predominant exterior aesthetic seemed to be "vandalized by a graffiti artist, but in a cool way." The S63 is a sleeper, is what I'm saying. |
