Warning Signs of Battery Failure

Learning how to service your battery is one thing but identifying the warning signs of potential battery failure is something that requires more focus and patience.  As a proud Lotus owner, you owe it yourself and your cherished luxury vehicle to learn how to identify problems with your battery before they worsen.  There are many warning signs that all drivers should know indicating a potential problem with your battery, including:

• No Crank, No Start - If you put the key in the ignition and try to turn over the engine with no crank and no start, your battery is most likely weak or dead.  Most of the time you'll hear a click when the engine doesn't engage, but sometimes you'll hear nothing at all, indicating an immediate problem with your battery.
• Dim Headlights & Interior Lights - Noticing that your headlights and interior lights are dim indicates a potential problem with your battery.  You can test this further by putting a significant load on your battery and monitoring how other electrical features react. Do the lights dim more?  Does the radio light dim?
• Dashboard Warning Light Comes On - The most obvious warning sign of battery failure is noticing your battery service light flashing on the dashboard.  Even if your car is running fine when you see the light come on, this warning sign is a clear indication that you should service your car battery now before it's too late.
• Excessive Battery Corrosion - During the initial inspection, be sure to visually explore the areas around and underneath the battery looking for dirt, debris, or corrosion. If your battery is corroded or continues to get dirty even after cleaning it, your battery might be old and most likely will need to be replaced.
